This update is brought to you two times a month by the Bitterroot Valley Chamber of Commerce. We want to let you know what is happening in the Valley and give you the opportunity to promote what is happening in your business.

Announcements are limited to 40 words and can have a link to your website. Non-profit organizations that are members of the Chamber can submit for free. There will be a $10 fee per submission for business members. The bulletin board will be emailed on approximately the 1st and the 15th of each month. Announcements must be sent to localinfo@bvchamber.com, three days prior to the bulletin.

If you drive Highway 93 in the Stevensville area between McCalla and Kootenai Creek, keep posted on the construction schedule, detours, delays and closures on www.us93steviwye.com

The site is designed to keep you, the traveling public, informed about what to expect as this part of the highway is widened. Access Daily Updates including any schedule changes, delays or closures so you can plan your trip through this area accordingly.

If you regularly commute through this section of highway, bookmark the site to check each day before you go.

This project includes complete reconstruction of the existing roadway, including grading, gravel surfacing, plant mix surfacing, landscaping, two new bridges and the removal of the existing bridges over Macalla Creek and Kootenai Creek just south of Stevensville on Hwy. 93.

The US Highway 93 South road construction schedule as shown is the original schedule established for the project. Weather and other factors may delay some of the work in some cases. Check the Daily Updates on WWW.US93STEVIWYE.COM for information on current activities, delay or closure notices.

In conjunction with the 2008 Treasure State Art Show, Farmers State Bank is hosting a state-wide artists’ competition to select an official painting of a Montana Christmas Tree for the national Capitol Christmas Tree Project.  The winning art piece will be presented to the Chief of the Forest Service in December 2008.

Farmers State Bank, based in Victor, Montana, is sponsoring this year’s Capitol Christmas Tree art contest, and they have opened the contest to include other forms of art in addition to paintings.  Their challenge to Montana artists?  Use your artistic talents and imagination to create your vision of a 60-foot Montana tree destined for the nation’s Capitol.  Consider the project theme, “Sharing Montana’s Treasures” as you develop your piece.  And adhere to the following criteria: 

  1. Any medium may be used:  oil, water, textiles (ie. quilts, rugs, wool art, etc), buckskin, metals, etc.
  2. Finished product should be 25-35 inches high & 20-30 inches wide
  3. Finished piece may be framed or unframed, but must be designed to hang on a wall.  
  4. Pieces should be submitted to the Farmers State Bank on or before the deadline of June 15, 2008

On May 6, HSD3 voters will decide the fate of a levy that would add $300,000 to the district’s general fund.

Yes, an application for absentee ballot is available from the district office. The deadline to request an absentee ballot is 12:00 PM (noon) on May 5th.
